Congratulations to our Autumn 2005 and Winter 2006 Undergraduate Scholars:
The Grainger Foundation of Lake Forest, Illinois, established in 1949 by Mr. & Mrs. William Wallace Grainger, has provided substantive support over the years to a broad range of organizations including educational institutions, museums, healthcare, and human services. In 1999, The Grainger Foundation entered into partnership with the University of Washington and awarded $600,000 to provide merit-based Grainger Fellowships and Scholarships to power engineering students, and to bring distinguished lecturers and speakers in power engineering research, education, and applications to the University of Washington. May, 2005 Acting Dean Mani Soma announced at the Grainger Recognition Award Dinner the expansion of the Grainger Power Program . The Grainger Foundation has made a generous new gift of $200,000 for scholarships and $700,000 for fellowships.
The new gift together with previous awards brings the total contributions to $1.5 million. UW Matching funds of $350,000 solidify the program into a permanent endowment.The Grainger Foundation program is part of a multi-pronged effort by the University of Washington power engineering group that also includes the Electric Energy Industrial Consortium (EEIC) and the Advanced Power Technologies (APT) Center.
