JOB TITLE: Graduate Teaching Assistant

General Duties/Description:
Teaching Assistants in the Electrical Engineering Department perform
a variety of duties depending on the nature of the course to which they
are assigned. Duties may include some or all of the following in
consultation with the course instructor:
- Attend lectures
- Conduct quiz section meetings
- Facilitate discussions
- Prepare lectures for quiz sections
- Prepare review materials for quiz sections
- Hold extra review sessions for exams
- Obtain room for review sessions (working through the EE Advising Office)
- Request or acquire necessary equipment
- Hold regular office hours
- Tutor students
- Manage and respond to course-related e-mail
- Prepare webpage for course materials
- Maintain (update) webpage for course materials
- Develop and maintain electronic bulletin boards, discussion sites, etc.
- Prepare test questions
- Proctor exams
- Score exams
- Maintain grading records
- Prepare course attendance records
- Maintain course attendance records
- Maintain records on individual students' assignment completion
- Calculate quarter grades
- Prepare lecture materials
- Present lectures
- Prepare overheads
- Prepare handout materials
- Review literature
- Place course materials on library reserve
- Attend instructor/TA meetings
- Act as liaison/mediator between student and professor
Requirements: UW Electrical Engineering graduate student.
Hiring Criteria:
Graduate TA appointmens will be based on the following criteria:
- TA/Instructor preferences as determiend by the applicant and potential instructors
- Academic performance and progress
- Previous TA performance
Percentage of Appointment: Full time (50%) or half-time (25%)
Hours: Graduate TAs with a full appointment will not be required to work for more than 220 hours per quarter for an average of 20 hours a week, and shall not exceed 30 hours in a given week except by the TA's consent. Graduate TAs with less than a full appointment will have their hours appropriately prorated.
Salary:
Salary is commensurate with the
Graduate Student Salary Schedule, academic standing, qualifications
and experience. Effective July 1st, an increase yet to be determined
will be calculated into your salary.
